Regardless of difficulties and obstacles, China's paper industry continued its brilliant march in 2021. Reports from China's National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) showed the country's machine-made paper and paperboard production in the year reached nearly 136 million metric tons, which grew 6.8% from the previous year and set a new record in the industry history!

After the consecutive year-on-year dips in the previous 3 months, China's paper and board production resumed its positive growth in December 2021 by rising 1.2% year-on-year to 12.34 million metric tons. This also broke the monthly output record in the industry history.

However, newsprint production continued its declines. In 2021, total output fell to 896,000 metric tons, down 11.2% from 2020 and retreated to the territory less than 900,000 metric tons for the first time since 1998.
