China's 9-Month Paper & Board Production Exceeded 100 million/mt
2021-11-08 10:00chinapaperonline.com
Data released by China's National Statistics Bureau (CNSB) showed the country's paper and board output in the first three quarters of 2021 reached 101.16 million/mt, up 10.4% from the corresponding period of 2020. Suffering from regional power restriction and market changes, however, national production in September fell below 10.74 million/mt, a clear reduction by7.8% from 12 months ago.

From January to September, business revenue of paper/paperboard production and conversion grew beyond RMB1.05 trillion or up 18% from that of 2020, along with a 18% increase in business cost. At the same time, industry earnings rose 34.4% year-on-year to RMB64.84 billion.

Newsprint production continues its downhill turns. In the nine months period, total output shrank to 697,000/mt, down 6.8% from the same period of 2020. And a 53,000/mt decline in production or a 30.3% steep fall from 12 months ago was reported in September, the biggest monthly reduction since February 1998.

Market analysts suspect that China's paper industry will remain under the impacts of tight supply and rising prices of power, raw and auxiliary materials in October, or throughout the 4th Quarter of 2021. Paper and paperboard production may slow down further, while operation cost rising higher. Helped by repeated price increases in paper and board sales from October, a few producers, especially those large ones who have secure access to raw and auxiliary materials and are equipped with power plants, may still be able to maintain or even increase sales revenue and earnings.
