APP seems not content with the acquisition of Bohui Paper in August this year, which has boosted the company’s coated solid bleached sulfate board (SBS) capacity to 5.8 million/mtpy. The company has slated a greenfield 1.5 million/mtpy SBS mill in Ningbo, Eastern China.

According to the latest information from the local authorities of Beilun District, Ningbo, a project proposal filed by APP for public review includes a 714,000/mtpy SBS machine, a 816,000/mtpy SBS machine, a 612,000/mtpy chemi-mechanical pulp mill and a series of supporting facilities. Taking up nearly 32 hectares of land, the project is projected to be completed in September 2023, or in 34 months from now, at the total capital investment of RMB10.23 billion.

Meanwhile, APP is constructing a 1.8 million/mtpy SBS mill in Guangxi, Southern China. The company has also received administrative permission to build a 1 million/mtpy SBS mill in Yancheng, Eastern China. If all the projects, including the newly filed Ningbo project, are approved and implemented, APP’s total SBS production capacity will top 10 million/mtpy and the company will become the largest SBS producer in the world!
