Paper Industry Divestment Continues In Fuyang
2019-10-28 09:15chinapaperonline.com
(www.chinapaperonline.com) Fuyang – a town in Zhejiang, East China once known as the hub housing several hundred small and recycled fiber-based paper mills in the early 2000s – is now making pains-taking efforts to rebuild the environment – fresh air, green field and clean water - by eliminating or relocating paper and board mills from the town.
In mid-October, the local authorities met with manufacturers in the town to mobilize the relocation and/or shut-down of industrial entities planned for the year. The target is to set to complete review procedure of all the affected mills by end-November 2019. This will involve 29 paper mills at the combined capacity of 2.14 million mtpy.
In fact, the divestment and industry consolidation began as early as 2015. By late 2018, more than 70 paper mills affecting 4.93 million mtpy of production capacity in the area were permanently closed, plus many other relocations and mergers. It is expected that by end-2020, all paper mills in the area will either relocate or shut down, in cooperation with the government’s drive to return clean water, fresh air and green field to the locality.
